Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need an expert recruiting program?
Most athletes and their families, no matter how well intentioned, do not have sufficient information to make the best decisions during the college athletic recruiting process. Working with an seasoned college coach with recruiting and coaching experience, who does not have a stake in the process and only cares about helping you achieve your goals, will help you put your strengths as well as your weaknesses into perspective. We help guide you on your journey, and provide you the reassurance of knowing you have an experienced insider on your side as you navigate your unique recruiting process.
Wouldn't I receive the same help from my high school coach?
Usually not. High school coaches can play a valuable role helping an athlete understand where they stand vis a vis their own team or conference, and some may also help with a letter of recommendation. But our coaches' one-on-one personal attention and behind-the-scenes experience coaching and recruiting for colleges provides a level of insight and assistance not available from the vast majority of high school coaches.
Will I work with a college coach or someone else?
You will work directly with one of our veteran college coaches, experienced in evaluating athletes for scholarships and working with players to bring their game to the next level.
How many of your coaches have coached at the college level?
Every one of us. Our coaching staff is made up entirely of retired college coaches and in some cases current professional coaches who have previously coached at the college level. So you work with one of us, you are getting assessed, coached, and guided by an experienced, high-level football coach, not the telemarketing clerks you see at some other services.
Does it matter where I live?
Absolutely not. We use online our proprietary audio, video, and other visual tools, which means you're able to work with top-level college football coaches regardless of your location.
When should I start?
Depending on your motivation and interest in playing at the next level, as early as middle school. All programs begin with a consultation where we discuss your goals and current situation, and design a customized program from there. A younger player will usually get a slightly different mix of features over the six-month program than a varsity player who is ready to start the college outreach process. But in all cases, our coaches are focused on preparing you to play at the next level.
Is it too late for me? What if I've already been talking to college coaches?
No. An AthleticOutlook recruiting program will give you actionable insights and personal feedback you aren't likely to get directly from the college coaches you're talking to. We will be completely transparent with you about your ability and prospects at various college levels, and provide coaching insights that can often help a player put their best foot forward. This enables you to focus your effort and resources and avoid wasting time on under- or over-shooting your ideal target level. You only get one shot, so you want all the intelligence you can get to make sure you're targeting the right schools.
Are parents included?
Absolutely! We encourage parents to be a part of the process from beginning to end - starting with the initial consultation. We find that the most successful recruiting outcomes often result from a team effort that includes input from the athlete as well as the parent.
What information do I need to provide to participate in your recruiting program?
We use the same information we used when evaluating prospects for our college teams: game film and/or highlight tape and a short athlete profile. We combine that with other information you share with us in a personal consultation about your goals and current situation. From this information, we can provide coaching, guidance, and an honest performance assessment gauged against national standards in our position-specific framework.
What if I don't have a highlight video?
We don't need a highlight video to do your evaluation, but we do need video of your play. If you don't have a highlight video of varsity film, our coaches can use video from any of your games. We'll ask you for your Hudl link in the sign-up process, and we'll take care of the rest. If you don't have a Hudl account, a link to your video on Youtube or Vimeo will do.
What payment options do you allow?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit cards. In addition, we accept debit cards, including pre-paid debit cards.
